About the Aircraft: In 1964, the U.S. Army was looking for an Advance Aerial Fire Support System whose primary mission was to provide armed escort for its Chinooks, and also to clear landing zones near enemy positions. The single-engine Cheyenne was based on the configuration of the XH-51A with a propeller for thrust instead of a jet engine.
