About the Aircraft: The Bell AH-1, the world's first attack helicopter, was developed from the Bell 205 UH-1B (Iroquois) as a high-speed, aerial weapons platform used for fire-support and ground escort duties. The AH-1's slim fuselage also made it a difficult target for ground fire. The Cobra embodies the dynamic components of the UH-1. In the rear of the helicopter is a small stub wing beneath which pods for 76 rockets could be fitted. Nearly three hundred pounds of special armor were integrated into the ship's airframe structure to protect pilot and crew.

With the XV-3 the entire wing rotated with the engines.
